2 Corinthians 6:4, 7: Approving ourselves as the ministers of God... by the word of truth.

*By the word of truth we are enabled to give a believable testimony. Truth, like pureness, is part of God*s leverage to move people to Himself. Certain clear requirements are necessary:

First, we must know the truth. This is much more than intellectual perception or truth-telling. The only way to know the truth is through a personal, intimate relationship with the Person who is the embodiment of truth, the Lord Jesus Christ. *Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. *If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed* (John 8:32, 36).

Second, we must obey the truth. God*s Word is a transmission, so to speak, from our Commanding Officer. God is the one who directs the *troops.* He does this through His Word administered by the Holy Spirit. Every time we disobey those orders we harm the relationship between ourselves and the Lord. We do not lose salvation, but we break the slender thread of fellowship that binds us to Him.

Third, we must speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15). There is always a loving way to tell the truth. If, for example, you say to your girlfriend, *When I look at you I lose all sense of time,* she*ll be impressed. But if you say, *Your face would stop a clock,* there is no telling what she will do to you! Love should so permeate truth that the end product is powerful in its ability to convince.

Fourth, we must live the truth. Paul said: *But the manifestation of the truth [we are to be] commending ourselves to every man*s conscience in the sight of God* (2 Cor. 4:2). The word manifestation means, roughly, *wrapped up in a human package*—a visible demonstration of God*s truth.

Small thought here. When you obey God, your life becomes a sermon that speaks directly to people*s consciences. Often we are unaware of how effective the language of the life can be!*
